Pigs at Lidl supermarket: Liberate the exploited workers!

The 8 pigs from the huge Straathof pigfarm in Wendisch Priborn appeared again in the crowd which gathered in Rostock, Lütten Klein by a Lidl supermarket on June 4. Located in a residential area, Lidl was given the attention of the pigs and the rest of the gathered people as an example of bad supermarket behaviour.

On the first of June the G8-leaders were put in the place of the pigs in their factory farm stables. As newly liberated, the pigs wished to show support with and for the liberation of underpaid workers, especially exploited immigrant workers. Lidl is only an example of one of all the supermarket chains operating with extremely humiliating working conditions and who are putting pressure on the food production which has consequences along the entire food production chain. And it is only one example of the things that are amiss with the modern food production system. Behind the facade of the supermarket there is an industrialised food machine which exploits humans, animals and nature.

At the local square by the Lidl, which was closed for the day (workers liberated day!!) and closed off from the street, the pigs informed the interested audience around about the devastating effects of the food industry and the meat industry in particular. The overproduction of meat in Europe, with the help of soy protein animal feed from South America, contributes to heavy pollution of water, air and land worldwide. Small farmers in the South and in Europe loose their land and are forced to migrate to cities or as in many South American countries, to the slums.

The pigs hope that people get the message and stop eating meat and start to support local, environmental food production.
Don't expect anything from the leaders! Free yourself!

The pigs declare solidarity with the world-wide struggle against capitalism, corporate power and exploitation of all species, humans as well as animals.
